Spy photos of the 2018 Suzuki Jimny have been found, and we’re salivating. The Jimny has long been a dream car for us. Well, a very small dream car. We saw a few of them in New Zealand, and it only further made us want one! I’m sure it won’t come Stateside, but I don’t care. It’s awesome. Read more over at our sister site, Subcompact Culture.

The Retro Redesign of the 2019 Jimny
Clearly, this spy photo shows a square, retro, boxy design. This hearkens back to the USDM Suzuki Samurai, or the 2nd generation Suzuki Jimny. It’s angular and muscular, looking like something that’s likely very small.
Off-Road Specs: Solid Axles and a True Transfer Case
At this time, we don’t know what engine will power the Jimny. We do know it’ll have solid axles and a two-speed transfer case, keeping with tradition. The Suzuki Jimny has always had these two features, and it appears the 4th-gen Jimny will stick to this winning formula. Plus, it helps to make the Jimny one of the most agile and capable vehicles sold in the world, at least for consumers.
Interior Upgrades and Modern Tech
We’re sure the next Jimny’s interior will be an upgrade compared to the previous models. Per the Moto1 photos, you can see it’s a fairly Spartan look, but it has clean lines. It’s also a great retro redo of the Jimnys of yore or the Suzuki Samurai.
Being a new vehicle, it’ll have all sorts of modern tech, and that likely includes new forms of traction and stability control, safety features, and comfort.
We’re stoked to see what this little off-roader looks like in the months to come.
