In March we competed in the 2020 Alcan 5000 Winter Rally. We drove our 1991 Mitsubishi Pajero, aka, the Terra Tractor, from Kirkland, Washington up to Tuktoyaktuk, Northwest Territories, and finished in Anchorage, Alaska. It was an amazing experience to put it lightly. The event’s tire sponsor, Nitto, put together this awesome video showcasing the Alcan 5000 in its glory.
Our Pajero was showcased at 3:15 and 3:50, in case you missed it. One of our buddy cars, the #40 Lexus GX470, was featured at 5:45, too.
Our Nitto Tires
During the Alcan 5000 Winter Rally, we rolled on studded 235/80R17 Nitto Exo Grappler tires. We had zero problems with them during the 6,000+ mile event. Their three-peak-rated design and sturdy construction provided ample traction and performed flawlessly. We have nothing but good things to say about them. Now that the event is over, we’ve switched back to our 285/75R16 Nitto Ridge Grapplers for the summer.
The Spirit of the Alcan 5000
This video, produced by Heavy Metal Concepts, really captures the spirit of the Alcan 5000 Winter Rally. This includes the vast landscapes, the snow-covered tundra, and the golden light as the sun stays low on the horizon. But as good as this video is, the Alcan 5000 is one of these events that can’t be fully understood until you participate in it. Things like the feeling of -40° against your skin. The sight of pristine snows above the Arctic Circle. Traveling several hundred miles a day on ice and snow without blinking an eye. It was an event we’ll never forget, and we’d do it again in a heartbeat. In fact, we’re already signed up for the 2022 Alcan 5000 Summer Rally. We can’t wait.
