Mitsubishi Delica Deep Dive FAQs

April 24, 2025 / Andy Lilienthal / 2 Comments
Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon (L300) and Delica Space Gear (L400) camping in Oregon.

I’ve written quite a bit about Mitsubishi Delica vans. From the Star Wagon (L300) and Space Gear (L400), to the Delica D:5, I’m passionate about these JDM vehicles. Heck, I even run the MDOC: Mitsubishi Delica Owner’s Club on Facebook. Because of all this, I get a lot of the same Delica-related questions over and…

Michigan Mitsubishi Delica for off-road use only

Michigan has sent letters to Mitsubishi Delica owners informing them their vans are no longer road-legal. This Mitsubishi Delica deregistration discovery was made in the MDOC: Mitsubishi Delica Owners Club USA Facebook group (of which I am an admin). Multiple owners alerted the group to the letters they received.

Upgrading the Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear’s Rear Hatch Supports

May 31, 2022 / Andy Lilienthal / 2 Comments
New Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear lift struts

Here’s a shocker: The original rear hatch supports/struts on our 1994 Mitsubishi Delica Space Gear were shot, and the hatch wouldn’t go all the way up when we’d open it. Fortunately upgrading the Delica Space Gear hatch supports / struts is easy. I’d previously looked for replacement units, but there weren’t any available, or at…

January 15, 2019 / Andy Lilienthal / Leave a comment
Delica and Hiace vans in the snow

Last Sunday was a time warp back to the early 1990s. OK, it also may have been the early 1990s in Japan, but it was a time warp nonetheless. Several JDM vans (and one sweet ’70s Chevy van) headed for the hills of Washington for the Time Traveler’s 4×4 Van Run. The meet, organized by…

Alabama Hills Delica Video

The Mitsubishi Delica is still quite a rarity in the United States. Every time we stop somewhere we get a ton of questions about the van. Those inquiries range from fuel economy and tire size, to interior space and our sleeping setup.

What It’s Like to Drive a Mitsubishi Delica

October 5, 2016 / Andy Lilienthal / 4 Comments
Driving a Mitsubishi Delica Star Wagon

Minivans have the reputation they do in North America because vehicles like the Mitsubishi Delica were not offered here. What is a Delica? It’s a four-wheel drive, diesel-powered, forward-control van you can sleep in. Other things you can do in a Delica include: Easily traverse rough terrain Perform water crossings Travel for years on end Never be called…
